2020 Holiday Gift Guide: Kids’ Books

holiday-gift-guide-kids-books

Boy or girl, young or old, we’ve got you covered with book gift recommendations for all the kids in your life!

GIRLS

The Babysitters Club Graphic Novels / 90s kids will remember the original The Babysitters Club book series but did you know they’ve been invented as graphic novels? Inspire your kids to dig into the world of Kristy, Mary-Anne, Claudia, Stacey, Dawn & Mallory as they set off on their babysitting adventures! Available as a box set or individually.

Click/Act/Camp Series by Kayla Miller / I was introduced to this series and author by my 4th grader who can’t get enough of these books! Telling a tale of navigating friendships, coming of age, and leaning on family, this sweet series will be sure to please any girl in your life. Recommended for 3rd grade and older.

Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy: A Modern Retelling of Little Women by Rey Terciero. / This reinventing of Louisa May Alcott’s classic Little Women novel introduces the March sisters as members of a blended family who live with their single mother while their father serves in the military overseas. While the setting and context may be modernized, the heart of the story is still intact and told beautifully through this graphic novel that girls of all ages can appreciate.

Usborne Illustrated Originals / You will need access to an Usborne consultant in order to purchase any of their books (and sorry in advance – there are tons of Usborne book recs on this list!) but those who are in the know will appreciate Usborne’s line of Illustrated Originals. Think: classic tales such as Alice in Wonderland, Anne of Green Gables, and The Wizard of Oz all accompanied by beautiful, original illustrations. If you’d like to get in touch with an Usborne consultant, hit up Sophia for the introduction ;)

BOYS

Harry Potter Illustrated Box Set / This beautifully illustrated set is appropriate for older fans of the series AND younger kids who are still learning to read – I’m currently reading through this series at bedtime with my 6-year old and he loves to hear me read aloud and look at the pictures simultaneously!

Lots of Knock knock Jokes for Kids / An easy stocking stuffer, this little book of knock-knock jokes is sure to keep the little boy in your life laughing for hours.

Usborne What is Poop / Exactly what it sounds like, this lift-the-flap book is both educational AND entertaining.

Ronald Dahl Box Set / Do I really need to say anymore here? 🙂

The Stinky Cheeseman by Jon Scieszka / Before there was Captain Underpants or Dogman or whatever it is boys are reading these days, there was … The Stinky Cheeseman. Introduce the boy (or girl) in your home to some 90s nostalgia with this retelling of classic fairytales, told from the perspective of one pesky narrator.

Usborne 1001 Things to Spot / Another staple of Usborne’s book catalog, the 1001 Things to Spot series feature all sorts of themes and settings varying from Under the Sea to On the Farm. Perfect for a pre-reader, get your kid to fall in love with books by simply looking at the pictures and finding things together.

BABIES/TODDLERS/PRESCHOOLERS

Where Is Baby’s Belly Button? / Little ones of all ages will adore this lift-the-flap book (and really, ANY lift-the-flap book).

Usborne Time to Brush / My 3-year old doesn’t know it yet but this one is going to be waiting under the Christmas tree for her this year. This book includes repositionable stickers that accompany the main story; your child can follow along and add the correct stickers to the correct pages as you read.

Usborne Just So Stories / An adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s stories, this book contains six colorfully illustrated short stories. Each one is long enough to read as a bedtime story and it’s my youngest daughter’s current favorite book – she literally tries to take a nap with it every day.

Little Golden Books / Who else had these Little Golden books as a child? I feel like they’ve been around forever but they never go out of style! My favorites are the Disney ones but this series has a story for every age, sex, and interest out there.

Press Here by Herve Tullet / Fun, interactive book that will have your kid cheering and clapping as you read aloud to them. If you haven’t heard of this book before, I cannot recommend it enough!

Little Pookie Board Books / This series featuring adorable little Pookie is another family favorite that the litttle one in your life will love reading about. Favorites from the series for us include Little Pookie and Night-Night, Little Pookie.
