School is back in session, and it’s time to hit the books again with our favorite young adult fictions that give us all the angsty teenage feels (without the actual drama). We’ve got a few new faces and some veterans in the mix, so it’s time for ROLL CALL!
By the Book by Amanda Sellet
The new kid on the block but chalk full of classic literary references. This clever YA rom-com has Shakespeare x Bridget Jones vibes and is a must read for any bookish fiend aka US.
Anna K by Jenny Lee
A modern retelling of Russian lit classic, Anna Karenina, with Gossip Girl vibes and the cutest cast of Asian characters! What’s not to love? The banter is fun and very current (had to google some terms;), and I could totally see this playing out as a Netflix series. Please give us a young Vronsky!
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series by Jenny Han
Pretty much the epitome of high school young adult fiction; lots of boy drama with dramatic irony to boot, good ol’ female frenemies, and sweet familial resolve. We’ve gone on and on about how we love any and everything by Ms. Han. So please do yourself a favor and get familiar with LJ, Kavinsky, and the whole Adler High School and Covey crew.
Anna and the French Kiss series by Stephanie Perkins
An oldie but a capital G-oodie. Finding love in a Paris boarding school could make anyone swoon, even these thirty-something year olds. Don’t skip out on the second and third books of this series; they’re the creme de la creme of YA fiction!
