June Bookclub Recap: People We Meet On Vacation

BY SOPHIA

photo via @latestbookcrush

June is here and summer has officially arrived!! Can’t you just smell the sunscreen and coconut in the air!? 🤩 #swoon. In any case, in celebration of the chillest season of the year, we chose overall rating 5/5

what we liked:

  • The characters of Alex & Poppy were both super relatable and written in a way that Jensine & I both found ourselves identifying with the characters… like how did Emily Henry perfectly nail down the friends to lovers dynamic by describing the small “what-if” percentage that most certainly exists between all coed best-friendships? (Just ask Jensine how her and her hubby ended up getting together 😜)
  • The weaving back and forth between different timelines was well executed and thought out. I loved that there was an explanation of summer trips between the two main characters being central to their relationship and that we get a countdown of every summer and how it leads to where the characters are in present time (ie, 5 summers ago, 4 summers ago, 3 summers ago)
  • The title People We Meet on Vacation was SUPER fitting for the dynamic between the protagonist and her love interest. The title seems kind of random but if you’re paying attention and reading well, you’ll pick up on the reason the book is titled this towards the end of the book. I saw another book reviewer totally blast this book saying the title made no sense and I just had to roll my eyes like … did you even READ IT? BECAUSE IF YOU DID, YOU WOULD KNOW HOW IT MAKES SENSE UGH. But I digress.

what we disliked:

  • Nothing.

in conclusion:

  • It’s rare that Jensine & I both feel the same way about a book and both rate it so highly. This book is in the top 5 reads for the entire year for the both of us so that alone should tell you how we feel about it. The best part is that at the heart of it, it’s still an easy, fun, beach read! It’s not super heavy that you couldn’t take it on vacation with you but it has enough substance and depth that you won’t easily forget this story after you’re finished.

Happy reading, guys! Let us know if you decide to read this one and if you love it as hard as we do!
