We’ve winded down the school year and jumped right into all the summer fun with our families. This episode, we chatted Mothers’ Day and all our grand plans to get out this season. Then headed into what we thought would be our last trip through the Grishaverse with the King of Scars duology (King of Scars + Rule of Wolves)… but little did we know…
Overall Rating: 3.5/5
What We Liked:
- Nikolai. Period.
- Picking up from all the perspectives in the Six of Crows duology, there are even more storylines to follow here, and Leigh Bardugo keeps it tense and exciting while weaving it all together so seamlessly.
- The cliffhanger at the end of King of Scars is tOp nOtch, as in OOOOOOOOOmg my jaw dropped
- I (J) loved the reunions with S&B and SoC faves in RoW but someone (ahem *S*) didn’t 😉
- Zoya’s redemption story throughout is *chef’s kiss. All hail!
What We Disliked:
- No one really ended up happily ever after!!!
- David!!! Why!!!
- The ending… was sadly unsatisfactory. After marketing this FOR YEARS as the last of the Grishaverse, I was emotionally preparing myself for the end. And to find out that pretty much NOTHING is resolved with no real end in sight is a travesty.
In conclusion:
I’m happy Nikolai got his story somewhat fulfilled but other than great character development, the overall plot arc and “ending” left much to be desired and much to be resolved. It is definitely NOT finished.
For next month, we’re taking a fantasy break and embracing hot mom summer with Emily Henry’s new book, “People We Meet On Vacation”. So pick it up and meet us at the pool… or the next pod!
