The Happily Ever After Playlist is a sort of sequel to the fun and fabulous book, The Friend Zone, which we both loved by new author Abby Jimenez. It follows Sloane, the best friend who suffers a tragic loss in the first installment, and Jason, a musician trying to make it in the industry and also into Sloane’s heart. It is hilarious and heartwarming and has an actually bumping playlist to boot.
OVERALL RATING: 4.5/5
WHAT WE LIKED:
- Both Sophia and I really liked this story (and Jaxon lol). We raced through it because it really was a happily ever after from the first dog falling into lap at intersection chapter, with squeals and feels at every corner after.
- Big plus: we threw in a cute Black Pink reference around 51:00, which is always a good sign 😉
WHAT WE Disliked:
- We both weren’t so sure about the insta-love and how Jason was the (too) perfect guy from the get-go. We were waiting for the other shoe to drop!
- Also the first third to half versus the second half of the book feel very different. The first half is fun and playful, but the second half dives deep into the pits of traveling as a musician and borders on depressing. We wish the author had stretched out the first part to flesh out how Sloane rediscovers love after her tragic loss.
Don’t miss the rest of our October episode, which is all about the enneagram, with guest host Stephanie (@beeskneesgarden)!
Our top books we read in October:
Sophia / The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris
Jensine / Beach Read by Emily Henry
