Review: Life’s Too Short by Abby Jimenez

photo via @peacelovebooksxo Abby Jimenez has become an auto-read/buy for me now, and her last book, "The Happily Ever After Playlist", was one of our book club picks! So when my library hold for her newest came available, I immediately became unavailable for all my other plans. I DEVOURED this book in literally one sitting, maybe with 15 minute pauses to make my kids kraft mac and cheese. But in short, I love love love loved this third installment in the "Friend Zone" series. "Life's Too Short" follows famous vlogger, Vanessa, as she suddenly finds herself[...]

review: a bridge across the ocean by susan meissner

BY SOPHIA Okay so, even though Jensine & I are both self-proclaimed YA lovers, I do tend to branch out once in awhile and read things outside of that genre (such as The Guest List, for example). This author, Susan Meissner, was mentioned by a different book blogger that I personally follow and that blogger said that this book was a beautiful historical fiction mystery that she really enjoyed. You might find it hard to believe but when I'm not reading about fae and wolves, I LOVE historical fiction. I probably get a bit of it from my dad who is a big hi[...]

Rave: finlay donovan is killing it

BY SOPHIA Guys. It's been awhile since I've read a book that felt refreshing and different and wasn't YA/fantasy so trust me when I say that I was SO happy to finally get my hands on a copy of Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano. This book is a murder mystery as the cover says BUT, it's not your typical John Grisham type of novel, or even a mystery in the way that The Guest List (reviewed here) is. There is an underlying current of dark comedy to this story - think Sophie Kinsella type of heroine meets a murder mystery that she unwittingly gets t[...]

REVIEW: The guest list by lucy foley

BY SOPHIA I think I have a good thing going with books that have the "Reese's Book Club" stamp of approval on them - in general, I have not been disappointed with books that come from this curated list and The Guest List by Lucy Foley is no exception. I'd seen this book buzzed about on bookstagram and the other interwebs and had wanted to get my hands on it for awhile. Of course, because of the all the hype surrounding it, it was extremely difficult to nab from the library so I put my name in the queue and just bided my time. For those who don't kno[...]

RANT: Majesty by Katharine mcgee

BY SOPHIA Have you ever read a book that you were absolutely SMITTEN with and couldn't stop thinking about? That's how I felt about the prequel to this book, American Royals. But this post isn't about that book and this post isn't going to be a rave, unfortunately. No, this post is going to be an unapologetic rant because aside from the travesty that was Christmas in Paris (by Anita Hughes, DNR!!), this book has been the BIGGEST waste of my time and most poorly written sequel that I've ever read. Strong words, I know but honestly ... why does anyone rea[...]
